Peripheral accessories

Have you ever known someone that blames the problem on their computer or their internet and when you try and help them with the situation you find them using some of the most obscure bits of technology to interface with their computer?

Their computer isn’t the reason they’re 1990s CRT monitor looks horrible. Their internet isn’t the issuez it’s the free keyboard and mouse that came with a water bottle purchase.

My internet connection isn’t the reason they can’t hear the virtual meeting through the free earbuds they got on their flight.

So many times with technology and with people it’s not the high ticket item that’s the problem. You don’t need to replace everything or anyone. You just need to replace the right thing.

You have to find what’s holding things up and optimize them. The things that need to be fixed are often really small almost inconsequential but essential.

Too many people in line at the water fountain? It’s not that people are loitering, it just takes too long to fill their water bottle. The old fountain needs replacement to a high flow unit.

Notice that you have hours of the day with lesser efficiencies during the summer? Maybe the answer isn’t a motivational seminar, you might just need to turn down the thermostat.

Are your call times up and people constantly asking clarifying or repeating questions? Maybe it’s not their focus, but the poor quality pens they use to take notes.

Is the amount of time employee spend in the bathrooms and soap consumption going up? Maybe they’re not slacking off, but you need better toilet paper……

What everything issue, people don’t need a lot to make them happy and productive. Sometimes you just need to find the small issues and fix them.

One of the old adages I like is this.

“the desert will not stop you, but the sand in your boot will.”
