I do a lot of photography. It’s a hobby and a job for me I love it dearly. I have a few cameras, My earliest camera that I still use professionally is from 2004. However the camera I use most often is from 2016. Both are very high-end cameras One is the Canon 5D Mark 4 The other is the Canon 1D Mark II. It is the 1D Mark II that is approaching it’s 20-year mark.

By all objective metrics it’s distant 2016 relative is by far the superior camera with its modern full frame sensor, 30 megapixel resolution, 4K recording, touch screen, 61-point autofocus… You get the idea. The Canon 5D Mark 4 is far closer to current day specs however there is one distinction that sets these two camera aparts beyond all of the specs.

The 5D Mark IV is an Advanced level DSLR, The 1D Mark II is a Pro level DSLR.

You might think that 12 years of innovation and technology might bridge the gap between an older pro and a newer advanced. in many cases you would be right but there are still some quality of life configurations and features that come from a strictly professional device.

The Canon 1D Mark II was not made with hobbyist in mind, it was strictly business. It is not an easy to operate device and it wasn’t made with a simplistic interface. It was made to be incredibly technical, highly customizable and extremely durable. This is why it’s still works almost 20 years after it’s release.

A detailed video review of the 1D Mark II will appear on the TESRTECK YouTube channel in the coming weeks and I encourage you to check that out.

But my point in all these words is this, if something was made to be used by professionals, it was made to last it doesn’t matter it’s age if it was taking care of. It will still function and it will hold its own. With technology hurtling forwards at such a pace as it is now it is staggering that a device is so old can perform on a similar level.

If you buy for create the best of something it will last.
